Phoenix Park was created on the site of Hickleton Main Colliery. The 66 hectares of woodland, grassland, wetland and ponds have been designed to provide a variety of habitats that support a diverse range of wildlife, which will increase as the woodland matures. A network of accessible pathways allows walkers, cyclists and horse riders to make the most of the varied scenery. Panoramic views for over 20 miles boast sights of the Peak District, Pennines and Emley Mast.

Sculptures and artistic features have been in place since 2000 (when Groundwork Dearne Valley worked with local residents and artists to create a beautiful public green space.) The selfie board here will form part of ongoing development, sited in the new Visitor Hub.
